$30 Raised
Anaina Hou Community Park is a registered 501 (c)3 Non Profit Organization.
Located on 15 acres in Kilauea on the beautiful north shore of Kaua`i, Anaina Hou Community Park offers entertainment, recreation, and educational programs and services for kama`aina, kupuna and visitors. Our campus features the Porter Pavilion events complex, unique Mini Golf & Gardens, a 17,000 sq. ft. playground, weekly Farmers’ Markets, and more.
As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and community volunteers to remain financially self-sustainable and preserve our facilities and services for the community.
Mission Statement
Anaina Hou Community Park is a community-gathering place on Kauai’s north shore that is rooted in our diverse history and where we honor the culture of these islands that calls us to Malama (care for) the land & sea, ourselves, and each other. To this end, we dedicate ourselves to developing public and private partnerships that benefit our greater island community through education, health and public safety, environmental stewardship, and quality entertainment.
Our focus for 2024 is our keiki and kupuna, both of which have their own dedicated featured campaigns listed below.
In brief, our focus for our keiki is needed upkeep of our playground facilities. Due to deferred maintenance during COVID closures, we have some catch up to do. Cost of upkeep is roughly $50,000 per year. Currently to catch up on deferred projects we are in need of roughly $150,000. This cost is primarily to replenish our wood chip base with wood chips that meet national playground safety standards.
Our kupuna programing is focused currently on our Kanikapila weekly program. Led by Coppin Colburn and his musical trio, this event pairs backyard style barbeque with an evening of music and hula. Kama'aina in the crowd are encouraged to join in mele and hula while Coppin's trio works through many of the loved songs that make the up the rich tapestry of Hawaiian music. Marketed concurrently towards kama'aina and visitors, we are able to provide low cost dinner and music to our kama'aina and kama'aina kupuna using visitor rates to directly subsidize the community effort. It is truly a beautiful way for visitors to directly give back to the local community. And it's a great evening of food and entertainment for all involved. As we move towards the shoulder period of our tourism seasons, this program is in danger of dropping down to once a month without the consistent subsidy provided by our visitor population. We are seeking $30,000 to subsidize our kama'aina and kama'aina kupuna meals each week in order to continue to provide this as a weekly program throughout the winter.
We encourage you to take a moment and read through our two campaigns as well as all the important missions of the greater north shore community. We are grateful for any support you can provide.
